Mauritius / Maurice
Bank of Mauritius
This is the fourth issue of the polymer series of 2000 rupees, dated 2018. The design of the note are as follows: -

Front - Portrait of the late Sir Seenwoosagur Ramgoolam (1900-1985). Sir Ramgoolam was the Chief Minister of Mauritius from 1961 to 1968 and then the Prime Minister from 1968 to 1982, following gaining independence from the British. In 1982, his political party, the Labour Party lost the general election and in 1983 he was appointed as the Governor General until his death on 15/12/1983. Sir Ramgoolam has been honoured by a garden, recreational centre for elderly people, college, national airport, coins and banknote. Several status were also erected around the country as well as in India. The see-through window bears the image of the Bank of Mauritius Head Office and two sugar canes. The background is printed with a building and the Lady Justice.

Back - A barefoot man transporting sugar cane with a bullock cart. In Mauritius, sugarcane occupies approximately 90% of the country's cultivated land and represents 15% of its total exports. An image of an extinct dodo is also included in the design as a see-through window.

The note is also printed with Hindi and Tamil languages on both sides. This is the largest denomination of banknote circulating in the country.

This is a new set of 3 polymer notes issued on 22.08.2013, replacing those paper notes previously issued. These are also the first polymer notes ever issued by the country. The designs of these notes (main features) are similar to those paper notes previously issued, however given that these are polymer notes, additional securities features are added to the designs, such as transparent windows etc. One distinct feature added to the new notes is the image of a dodo on the transparent window. The dodo has been extincted for many years due to human consumptions (taste like chicken?). All notes are imprinted with a year date of 2013.
