On 09.12.2019, the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago released a new $100 polymer 2019 series. This was the first of the new polymer series and the $100 was printed as Series 2019. Since then the bank had progressively released the rest of the series and here I have posted the remaining of the polymer series.

As this a new polymer series, apart from the $100, the rest of the notes posted here are all printed with Series 2020, and for this reason, I have posted them here as a separate post from the $100 issued in 2019. These five notes were released progressively between 2020 and 2021.

 

The main features of the designs on all the notes here are basically the same as those last paper notes issued. On the front, it features a difference bird, the nation Coat of Arms and a flying flag. On the back, it features the central bank and then followed by various features or scenes of the country.  

For the first three notes ($1, $5 and $10) are all printed with a diamond shape transparent window, whilst the remaining two notes are also printed with the same window, but also the image of the birds are also printed as a see through feature.

 

Whilst this is a new series with all notes printed on polymer substrate, this is not the first time the central bank had introduced polymer note to the public. In 2014, it released its first polymer note of $50, celebrating the Central Bank's 50th anniversary.

Back - Eric Williams Financial complex. The Eric William Financial complex is a pair of skyscrapers 22 stories tall and is located on Independence Square in the capital city of Port of Spain on the island of Trinidad. To the locals, these two buildings is known as the Twin Towers. As per the name of the building, it was named after the first prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago. The first tower houses the central bank , whilst the second houses the Minister of Finance. The Eric William Financial complex was built in 1986. To the right is the House of Representatives or parliament. The building was originally built around 1844, but was destroyed in 1903. It was then rebuilt in 1907, and because of the  colour of the building, is is also referred to as the Red House to the locals.

Trinidad and Tobago - 2019 Series Polymer

The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago released the new 2019 Series with the first denomination of $100, on 09.12.2019. This is the second denomination of banknote issued in polymer substrate. The circulating $50 polymer note was first released in 2015 (Series 2015). The design of this $100 note is very much the same as those paper notes previously issued. With the release of this new $100 polymer note, the central bank demonetised the paper $100 note and ceased legal tender on 31.12.2019.

The new Series 2019, once fully released, will be all printed on polymer substrates and will consist of $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100. 

Here I have posted the $100 as the rest of the series are not issued yet.

This is new 2015 series of a new $50 polymer note, reportedly issued in November 2015. At a quick glance, this note looks more like a reprint of the 2014 Central Bank Commemorative but without the commemorative text. There are some obvious differences between this note and the one issued in 2014. These changes are - Series 2015 is added to the note, the font on the serial numbers are not the same, and the changes to the design and colour for the flying Red Capped Cardinal bird on the right side of the note. In addition to this, it also added the embossed tactile feature (heavily indented 12 round dots arranged in a circle) under the Red Capped Cardinal bird, which are very noticeable. These dots are to assist with those with virtually impaired to identify the value of the currency.

This is the first polymer note issued by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. This note was released on the 13.12.2014 celebrating the Golden Jubilee (1964-2014) of the country central bank, the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. The bank was established by an Act of Parliament on the 12.12.1964. An interesting story about the $50 denomination of this tiny nation. The $50 (together with the $100) was first introduced on 6 June 1977. A shipment of the $50 was then stolen in transit to Trinidad and Tobago. This forced the government to suspense the circulation of $50 banknotes and not until 2012, it was then reintroduced by the former Bank Governor Ewart S Williams with the released of a new $50 to celebrate the country's 50th Year of Independence. A circulating version of the note was also released but without the commemorative text of the $50 commemorative note. This new polymer note bears the Governor's signature of Jwala Rambarran.
