Mauritania - 1000 Ouguiya Polymer Note

One Thousand Ouguiya
Dated 2014
Reverse
4.12.2014
Nouakchott, Mauritania - The Central Bank of Mauritania has today announced the issue of its new 1000 Ouguiya banknote printed on Guardian® polymer substrate. With the release of the 1000 Ouguiya, Guardian® is currently issued by 24 countries on 78 denominations worldwide.

With more than 30 billion notes issued on Guardian® polymer, the technology is sophisticated and proven.

The Central Bank of Mauritania has also ensured that the new polymer 1000 Ouguiya is smaller than the preceding paper note, making it easier to handle. Similar to other notes in the current series, the new 1000 Ouguiya is 142mm by 70mm. The 1000 Ouguiya banknotes, of the old and new series, have similar cultural graphics. These include intricate patterns and text elements, with Arabic on the face side and French on the reverse. The new note also retains the familiar blue-green colour of the previous series 1000 Ouguiya banknote.

The transparent window feature provides the quickest and most discrete way to authenticate a polymer banknote. Secure, durable, and easy to identify, the transparent window incorporates several features that can be viewed from the face or back of the note. Portions of the window are fully transparent, allowing one to see through the banknote. At the top of the window is the AURORA® feature which consists of three small panels that each change colour when the note is tilted; the left side panel of the AURORA® feature changes colour from gold to green; the centre panel of the AURORA® feature changes from gold to magenta; and the right side panel of the AURORA® feature changes from blue to green.

In the bottom of the window is an embossed, transparent numeral, “1000” in Arabic text.
On the right side of the window is a distinct, metallic silver pattern. When viewed directly, the METALIX® feature has a bright, silver colour. When the note is tilted, however, the lustre of the silver colour changes to a flat silver colour.

The new polymer note features two Shadow Images (the polymer-equivalent of a watermark in paper) that can be viewed from either side of the banknote when it is held up to the light. As viewed from the front side, the numeral “1000”, representing the denomination, appears near the top right of the window. Similarly, the portrait of an elderly man appears to the right of the window.
Touch™, a special feature for the blind and partially-sighted, is located in the top left corner of the banknote. This feature consists of four symbols of three raised dots each. This group of four symbols corresponds to the denomination “1000”.

The special and highly secure intaglio printing process creates raised ink patterns on the notes. These intaglio ink patterns, found in the principal motifs and along the edges, are distinctive to touch and give the banknote a characteristic, rough feel. Intaglio, raised ink patterns appear on both the front and back of the banknote.

Each individual banknote is identified by a unique serial number. No two notes of the same value have the same serial number. Located on the front of the note, this number appears horizontally in the top left corner and also, vertically along the right edge.
